I was sunder the impression that Astro’s Playroom especially blew their minds to people who never played the actual VR game. I will sound old, but kids today don’t understand how games like these would probably create much better gaming experiences and fun memories than most modern, grindy, live service trash. A good game is a good game yes, but a game that may appeal to one person will not appeal to another. However reviews and scores you would think would then be balanced.

Many platformers have done a lot over the years in abilities/level design/marketing not reaching people, more dialogue/combat/other crap & level design/movesets taking a hit. @Bluetrain7 Nearly every level has at least one Bot to rescue, including the challenge levels and secret levels. In order to get the Platinum, you need to rescue every Bot and get every Puzzle Piece. @rjejr I personally wouldn’t describe any of it as gimmicky; if I could compare it to anything, think of Super Mario Galaxy. Mario gets various power-ups throughout the game and often they only feature a couple of times — it’s like that.

The game will receive regular updates for performance improvements and potential additional content. Experience the magical adventure that captured hearts worldwide. See why critics are calling ASTRO BOT the most innovative platformer of the generation. Each Astro Bot release pushes the boundaries of PlayStation hardware, from PS VR to PS5’s DualSense controller features. Team ASOBI’s masterpiece claims the prestigious Game of the Year award at The Game Awards 2024.

It’s inspired by the playful design of ASTRO’s trusty Dual Speeder. Go behind the scenes in this five-part series with Team ASOBI to discover how their philosophy of “All About PLAY” created a super-sized space adventure game for everyone. Kenneth C. M. Young, having previously composed the music for Astro Bot Rescue Mission and Astro’s Playroom, returned to compose the soundtrack for Astro Bot. It is no surprise that a game like Astro Bot could be the big winner of the Game Awards.

Since what you’re actually after is the stolen pieces of the PlayStation 5 there’s always an extra level after each of the main bosses that is inspired by a first party Sony game. You can probably imagine what these are already, with the God Of War one giving you Kratos’ ice axe and the Uncharted one having Nate shooting what looks like foam balls at enemies. What results is a 3D platformer very similar to Rescue Mission (which hardly anyone played because it’s VR-only) and Astro’s Playroom (which everyone owns because it’s free with the console).

Another level drops me in a casino and puts a time-slowing PSVR on Astro’s head. I use that ability to freeze a giant slot machine as it rains down chips, turning them into platforms. Ingenious one-off mechanics like this feel like they could serve as the basis for an entire game; that’s how well-crafted they are. Team Asobi clearly designed it for players of all skill levels, and that includes children and newbies, but at its core Astro Bot feels purpose-built for video game fans.

San Mateo, Calif. – Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) today announced the launch of Astro Bot on the PlayStation 5 (PS5) console, the latest game in the critically acclaimed series. This highly anticipated release takes players on an interstellar adventure in search of Astro’s lost spaceship crew, who have been scattered across the galaxies after the PS5 mothership is attacked. Astro Bot pays tribute to three decades of play with crew members inspired by iconic games from past and present, helping to kick off celebrations for a significant milestone – the 30th anniversary of PlayStation. With tons to see and do, almost endless fresh ideas, innovative use of the DualSense’s features, and truly charming presentation, it’s a confident and cohesive experience that players of all ages will love. To top it all off, it’s a perfect game to celebrate PlayStation’s 30th anniversary, reflecting on the myriad series that made the platform what it is today. After completing a level, restart and you’ll spot a small birdhouse near the start of the level. Smash the glass casing on the birdhouse and pull the cord to get a bird companion who will point you towards any missed collectibles, including bots, puzzle pieces, and portals. It will cost a one-time fee of 200 coins per level, but it’s well worth it.

But im very frustrated by how cruel the last extra level can be. I hate the level design, totally unbalenced when compared to the rest of the game. Team Asobi has announced that five new levels are coming to Astro Bot as weekly drops, starting on Feb. 13.

The result was Astro’s Playroom, a 3D platformer that was, once again, released as a free game designed to showcase a new piece of hardware. It came pre-installed on the PlayStation 5 when it went on sale in 2020. It was easily one of the best games available on the system at launch. To this day, its creative use of the DualSense controller’s haptic feedback and adaptive triggers showcase what the controller can do better than pretty much any other game.

Previous Astro Bot games have been employed to showcase new bits of kit. It feels like Sony is trying to channel its whole spirit into this game. 777X is a glimpse of what Sony wants you to understand that it believes that it is.

For now though, you’ll find me trying to 100-percent Astro Bot, cursing and laughing the whole way through. These are just three examples, but quite literally every level in the game has some kind of unique idea or design. There are some repeats in terms of power-ups that Astro Bot is given, little devices or creatures that give them new moves.

This means that after the thrill of the game’s nostalgic moments wears off, there is not much reason to play after its 15 hours are up. These occasionally repetitive enemies are also an important part of Astro Bot’s difficulty. The main levels are never too tough – the real challenge is finding all the bots and collectibles – but there are special secret levels that test your skill. These have no checkpoints, so they’re not for the faint of heart. Yet they never fall into the trap so many platformers do of cranking the difficulty up way beyond reasonable levels and changing the game’s essence. Astro Bot can be punishingly difficult, especially the final gauntlet once you have every collectible in hand, but it never feels unfair.
